A message from our founder

At A League of Our Own, we are dedicated to providing an inclusive sports league for individuals with special needs. Our mission is to create a supportive environment where everyone can enjoy athletics and build lasting friendships.

The idea was inspired by niece, who has autism.  There were no sports for her to play locally, and after researching several programs, I found one that would cater to people with special needs in our area.  I contacted the city of Oxford, and we began to meet with the Parks and Recreation Department, and A League of Our Own was born.  With the support of the city and donations from local businesses, we were able to make this dream become a reality!

A League of Our Own is designed to help these special kids play a sport they love and to help them build self-esteem.  They get to know what it is like a be a part of a team, and they get to play on their own terms without fear of being laughed at or made fun of.  This is a crucial key for their development.

On April 7, 2012, we played our first game.  We had two teams with nine players.  Each player had a "buddy" on the field with them to assist them in his or her roles.  We played two innings, and in each inning, every player batted, ran the bases, and scored.

Thanks to a partnership with Eastman Corporation (formerly Solutia) and the city of Oxford, we were able to build an inclusive baseball field in 2015 that is designed for athletes with all abilities, and we began our season on that field and have been playing on it ever since.

Thank you for visiting our website, and we hope you will join us in ensuring that "everybody wins!"
